«Мы знаем, что всякий рожденный от Бога, не грешит; но рожденный от Бога хранит себя, и лукавый не прикасается к нему» (1Ин 5:18, Синодальный перевод). Одна из фраз этого стиха имеет два прочтения, которые хорошо засвидетельствованы в греческих рукописях: «хранит себя» и «хранит его». С целью определить наиболее близкое к оригиналу прочтение стиха, в статье производится краткий текстуальный (внешние свидетельства), лексический, синтаксический и богословский (внутренние свидетельства) анализ. Богословский анализ состоит в поиске значения фразы «рожденный от Бога» в контексте данного послания Иоанна. Относится ли слово «рожденный» к христианину или Христу? Христос, Рожденный от Бога, хранит рожденного от Бога, или рожденный от Бога хранит сам себя? На основании исследования автор приходит к выводу, что прочтение «Христос хранит христианина» лучше соответствует содержанию и контексту 1 Иоанна.
